Keith Lock
Biography
Born in Toronto, Keith Lock holds an M.F.A.
degree in film from York University. He was a founding
member and the first chair of the Toronto Filmmaker’s Co-op, which formed out
of Rochdale College and later turned into LIFT. He
worked as Claude Jutra's assistant, as well as Michael Snow's cinematographer
on a number of films shot in Canada. Lock’s student film, Flights of Frenzy,
won the Best Super 8 Award at the UNESCO 10th Muse International, Amsterdam, in
1969.
Lock was first introduced to filmmaking after meeting Jim Anderson in high school. The two collaborated on several projects, including Arnold (1971) and Work Bike and Eat (1972), companion pieces that deal with the absurd life of a young man named Arnold who works at a drugstore in Chinatown. According to Lock, working with Anderson was, and still is, ideal. The two filmmakers complimented one another, each bringing alternate tastes to their work. |
